Product Decoration Guide: Laser Engraving

Laser Engraving

  • Laser Engraving is the process of using a precisely focused laser beam to etch into the surface of a material. Using a PC and specific engraving software laser engraved mark can be controlled on an individual level.
  • Depending on the item's material various etching outcomes are used to produce optimal results. The main three concerning most promotional items are:

ENGRAVING: Is the process of etching into a solid material creating a depth and contrast with the surface, such as engraving a metal alloy key ring.

TEMPERING: Is the process of utilising more intense heat rather then etching depth to create a darker contrasting mark, such as engraving stainless steel pens.

Ablation: Is the process of removing a surface layer to expose a base metal underneath.

Individualisation of items with names or numbers is easily achieved.

  • No ability to reproduce colour.
  • Laser engraving is often to subtle for promotional marketing

A ceramic fluid can be applied to a clean and flat stainless steel surface then laser engraved to produce a black to dark brown mark as an alternative to silver.

  • Repeat charges cover the cost of artwork prods, re-jigging and all steps to ensure the product is set-up again

Most common Laser Engraved products:
Stainless steel mugs, metal key-tags, pens, and business card holders, USB flash drives.

Any bare metal, stainless steel or anodised aluminium (such as key rings, pens and mag-lite torches respectively) offer the best YAG laser marking contrast.

With CO2 laser marking acrylic and wood are optimal materials that achieve the best result.
